The start of Baby Ballet

When I first began teaching ballet, my eldest daughter, Miss Rose, was 4 years old, and my 'baby', Miss Belle, was 18 months.

Belle mostly played around while Miss Rose and her friends had their lesson. As the months went by, Belle showed more of an interest. Another of my ballerinas had a little sister the same age who also wanted to be just like her big sister. She had a friend who wanted to join in the fun and so all three munchkins would come along half an hour early to have their own, special lesson.

I tailored the moves especially for tiny minds and bodies, approaching it with lots of love, patience, and humour, and it turned into something wonderful.

And so, Baby Ballet was born!

It's fast become one of my favourite classes each week. This age group brings its challenges, of course, but it is so rewarding and lots of fun! We use lots of props, costumes, imagery, and imagination games to help our littlest dancers learn their ballet moves. At this age, they are not going to have a perfect Plie or Pirouette, but they have so much enthusiasm and give it their all. They don't care that they are little...they want to be beautiful ballerinas just like the 'Big Girls', and they do a great job!
